Gale Okumura’s professional graphic design practice brings a valuable component to teaching in the visual communication area of the Design Program. Her 27 years of experience in the graphic design field provides creative design solutions for a varietyof her client’s visual communication needs. Her interest in agriculture brings another dimension to graphic design in the form of packaging. She is designing brand recognition for various rice products, which will be distributed in the Hawaii market and later in the Pacific Rim areas.

Gale’s many years of working with non-profit arts organizations brings her knowledge and expertise as a board member of the River Valley Arts Center, an arts organization serving as a regional hub to bring sculpture, art education, cultural exchange and board member for the CA Lectures which brings well-known writers, authors, lectures and poets to the region. She is also chairperson for the Fred G. Wade Scholarship and faculty advisor for the design club, IMPACT. Gale’s interest in helping students also involves her as a committee member for the Sacramento Consortium of Educators. She actively involves her students in design projects for many non-profit organizations, such as the California Cancer Research Program, Napa Valley Symphony and Friends for Kids. These projects involved the development of a new logo design, business system and other collateral materials. Students gain professional experience working with the clients directly and strengthen their creative skills.
