Associate Professor, A.B. Anthropology, Stanford University; M.F.A. Textiles, Wayne State University; one year study at Gesamthochschule Kassel, Germany. Served on the faculty of the Studio Art Program, The Residential College, University of Michigan, 1(530) 978-2002; served on the faculty of the Nature and Culture Program, UC Davis, 2(530) 003-2005. Courses taught: Basic Drawing, Introduction to 2-D Design; Hand-constructed Textiles; Visual Thinking and Creativity; Art and the Natural World; senior capstone course, Nature and Culture; Environmental Consciousness and Sustainability in Design.
Ann Savageau has exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally. She has had 12 solo exhibitions and over 60 group exhibitions. National exhibition venues include The Detroit Institute of Arts; Long Beach Arts; The University of Wisconsin, Madison; The Textile Workshop, Santa Fe, New Mexico; and the Craftsmen’s Guild of Mississippi. International exhibitions include “K-18 Stoffwechsel”, Kassel, Germany; Editions Gallery, Perth, Australia; Third International Exhibition of Miniature Textiles, London, England. She has served as juror or curator of exhibitions, and has given numerous lectures and workshops. She is the recipient of a 1995 Excellence in Education Award from the University of Michigan, and a 1997 Annie Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Arts from the Washtenaw Council for the Arts. Her art has been featured in Surface Design Journal, Fibre Forum,Fiberarts Design Book, Fiberarts Design Book II, American Craft, The Secret Spaces of Childhood (ed. Elizabeth Goodenough), and in numerous catalogs and newspapers. Her current mixed media sculpture explores the interface between human culture and the natural world.
